The Good life is a process and not a state of being
My name is Katharine and I became a counsellor in 2018. I offer one-to-one therapy from a counselling hub in central Reading. I also give therapy from my secluded cabin, which is easily accessible from Tilehurst village.
I am an integrative counsellor. I have experience supporting those who have suffered abuse, trauma, and crime. I also support those with mental health issues. These include OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), isolation, anxiety, and depression. I offer both short and long term therapy. I also have an increasing specialism in adult Neurodiversity. This includes Autism and ADHD.
I am a qualified counsellor with 7 years’ experience working with adults in the following roles:
- Counsellor, Survivor’s Trust Charity, Reading – supporting adults dealing with rape, childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, both current & historical.
- Group Private Practice, Reading – Counselling adults with a variety of concerns often including anxiety, OCD, hoarding, autism. ADHD, and sexuality.
I aim to offer a calm and safe space for clients who are experiencing:-
- Anxiety and Depression related symptoms
- Adults with Autism- helping them develop their own identities and allow them to make independent life choices
- Self-identity and development
- Relationships
- Sexual, physical, emotional, and psychological abuse including controlling behaviour
- Issues related to traumatic events and complex PTSD (Post traumatic Stress Disorder)
- Depression
- OCD
- Grief
As a integrative counsellor, I work with each client’s particular needs. I form a working relationship that respects and acknowledges my client’s self knowledge and self-awareness.
I bring a range of different approaches. One of them is person centered techniques. In these techniques, we look at the current and where the client presently is. I also use psychodynamic approaches to help clients look at background reason for current day concerns. For autistic clients, I offer an outline of what to expect from our sessions, visually and verbally. This helps relieve anxieties about entering a new situation. I aim to create a shared experience. The client and I explore goals and focus together in the therapy room.
As an integrative counsellor I believe therapy offers an opportunity for self-exploration with another person. I believe self-awareness is key to unlocking ourselves and how we experience life. Experiencing our emotions in a safe and confidential therapeutic relationship can be a great advantage to our journey toward self-awareness. It enables us to understand our relationships and ourselves.
